On Sept. 16 more than 700 students and alumni crowded into the first event of the fall semester’s VIP Distinguished Speaker Series , featuring McCombs Dean Thomas Gilligan’s interview with PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra K. Nooyi. Nooyi, often cited by business magazines as one of the world’s most powerful women, shared insights about working and leadership.
Ten years have passed since Red McCombs made his transformational $50 million gift to the school. The unrestricted funds have extended well beyond the original sum through a unique matching program, serving as the rising tide that raised many other generous donations.
This spring, students joined efforts to continue improvements to student life at McCombs through the 2010 Student Giving Campaigns. With high participation rates, students raised the bar for future student campaigns and for McCombs alumni, whose annual giving participation rate is only at 6 percent.
