For MBA Student, a "Happy" Film Debut with Cosmetics Brand Clinique

“If you don’t take a risk and try to do something you really love to do, then you miss out on becoming great at something.”

So says MBA student Christine Chen, who put her career front and center in a video she directed titled, "I Love What I Do," which she produced for Clinique's "What Makes You Happy?" campaign. To promote its popular Happy fragrance, Clinique asked Chen and eight other up-and-coming filmmakers to film what makes them happy.

In Chen's film, musician Heather Alden and actress Michelle Faraone join Chen on camera to explain in detail why they love what they do. In addition to being a full-time student Chen owns production company Moth to Flame Films. Clients include HomeAway, United Health Care and Farenheit Nutrition. Around McCombs, Chen is also known for her spoof video, "Gettin' My MBA," which features, among other things, the dance moves of finance professor Stephen Magee.

"I realized a few years ago that I needed to pursue my love for filmmaking or I would spend my life regretting what could have been," Chen says in her description of the Clinique video. "Though my journey in the entertainment industry receives a lot of negative resistance ... I wanted to show people that success is possible. The women that I have met in the entertainment industry, who take the leap of faith to pursue what makes them happy, embody a strength and joy so pure—that I just had to capture it."
