BHP Students Bring Home First Place in Ethics Case Competition

Bhargav Srinivasan, BBA ’12, and Kelley Rytlewski, BBA ’12, both in the McCombs Business Honors Program (BHP), won the ninth annual Collegiate Ethics Case Competition hosted by the University of Arizona Eller College of Management. The McCombs team bested 28 other teams from across the country.

The competition, held Oct. 25–27, was created to expose students to a real world ethical dilemma, not unlike a problem they might face in their professional careers. The 2011 case required that each student team assume the identity of a risk mitigation group at a local bank and respond to a family considering a strategic default on their mortgage.

Students presented their analysis and recommendations to a panel of judges in two rounds. The judges then rate team performances for their delivery, depth of analysis, and persuasiveness.

Northern Illinois University, United States Naval Academy and Brigham Young University took second, third and fourth place, respectively.

McCombs students placed third in the competition last year.
